Frequently asked Questions

How long will a photoshoot take?

My style of photography is based around a detailed, considered approach, as I believe the best results are obtained this way. Good photography takes time, which is why I only offer half and whole day shoots for interiors and products.

As an example - if a property is the subject of a commissioned shoot, and more than the main living rooms (average-sized kitchen, living room, one bathroom) and two average-sized bedrooms are to be photographed, a day shoot will be required.

Can you quote for a shoot?

A brief will be needed from the client so that I can determine the approximate length of the shoot, and build a quote based on that information. Ideally, a shot list will also be provided, so that I can understand the exact requirements for the shoot and quote more accurately. A shot list details what needs to be photographed, how many images need to be captured, and if any variants are required. This is particularly helpful for product shoots. Do you offer styling?

Basic styling is included within the fee (using available items to dress a space, using my stock of homeware items and props, and providing food and flowers at the client's request). Styling guides can be also created to have a template on which to base interior or product shoots. The fee for this service is £95/hour and will need to be arranged at the beginning of the photoshoot process. Please click here to see an example of a styling guide.

Do you use a contract?

Once the length of the shoot is determined, and a shoot date has been agreed on, a commission agreement will be issued which will require a signature from the client and photographer before the shoot commences. This is to ensure both parties agree on the logistics of the commission, what fees are required, the terms of image usage, and any other important information relating to the commission.

How can the images be used?

When a client commissions a photographer, they are buying a license to use the images that result from a photoshoot. This is because by law, copyright is owned by the creator of the work. The images I deliver from your photoshoot can be used for any application, for an indefinite period, except for advertising campaigns.

Advertising carries a different value to standard applications like websites, social media, print collateral, or editorial features. Advertising describes paid advertising placements in editorials, point of sale, digital, billboards, TV, and so on. Advertising rights are available, charged separately to the commission fee. There is also the option for copyright buy-out, if a client wishes to own all rights to the images.

How is payment arranged?

When the commission agreement is signed, an invoice will be sent to the client for a non-refundable 50% deposit. Payment of this will be required for the shoot to proceed. Once the shoot and editing are completed, a digital contact sheet of the images will be sent to the client, along with the final invoice. The high-resolution and web-ready photographs will be sent via FTP transfer once the final payment is received. Payment is accepted by BACS transfer or via Stripe payment processing.

Are you VAT registered?

My business is a partnership that is not VAT-registered.

When can I expect my images after a shoot?

I aim to deliver images within one week from the shoot date. However, the time it takes to deliver images depends on the complexity of the retouching, how many pictures were created, and how many existing commissions are being worked on. If a deadline is required for the image delivery, this can certainly be discussed before the shoot. My fee includes up to 50 retouched images, after which editing and retouching will be charged at £95/hour.
